Efficacy of Selected Herbal plant extracts against Liver flukes in Cattle
Dr. Ekou Justine
Context
Problem Area: Fascioliasis (liver fluke infection) is a major parasitic disease affecting cattle and sheep worldwide, with significant economic losses in Uganda and other countries. It threatens food security and livestock productivity, undermining poverty reduction and agricultural sustainability goals. Proposed Solution: Development of effective, low-cost herbal drugs from medicinal plants (e.g., Zanthoxylum chalybeum, Azadirachta indica, Capparis fascicularis) as supplements to commercial drugs. This approach leverages traditional medicine to provide affordable treatments for rural farmers.
